Officials from the Jewish Community Center on the Hudson in Tarrytown will break ground on the center’s new 75,000-square-foot facility on Oct. 8.
.The event, which begins at 10:30 a.m., will be held at the 6.6-acre site of the new community center at 425 N. Broadway in Tarrytown. The new facility will include the center’s current location as well as the former General Motors training facility it purchased in 2009 for $3.2 million.
Among those attending the event include state Sen. Andrea Stewart Cousins, Assemblymembers Thomas J. Abinanti and Shelly Mayer, project donors, community center officials from throughout Westchester County and officials from the center’s board of governors.
The organization launched a $7 million fundraising campaign in 2014 to cover the construction costs. An estimated schedule for construction was not immediately available.
The center, which celebrated its 85th anniversary last year, has occupied its current 17,000-square-foot former medical office building since 1995. The non-profit organization offers social, recreation and educational programs.
