Part of a concrete slab inside a parking garage located between Hale Avenue and South Broadway in White Plains collapsed today, causing damage to several cars. The section of the fifth floor dropped at an angle onto the floor below.

White Plains firefighters and police were called to the scene, and erected temporary support columns in the garage. The White Plains Public Safety Department said that they were assessing the situation. No injuries were reported. Streets leading to the garage were closed and Public Safety advised people to avoid the area.

The garage is adjacent to the New York Life Westchester One building at 44 S. Broadway and an entrance/exit ramp allows vehicles to access the garage from South Broadway.The garage is operated by LAZ Parking.
Numerous cars were visible on a number of floors of the garage. There was no immediate indication of a failure beyond the one section of a ceiling/floor that came down.
