The state has allocated more than $70 million in federal and state funds for 16 affordable housing projects across Connecticut, including $4.95 million for downtown Bridgeport”™s McLevy Square, a mixed-use development of 56,700 square feet at 211 State St. being constructed by Darien-based Forstone Capital L.L.C.
Gov. Dannel P. Malloy made the announcement.
Said Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch, “This is great news. These funds serve as a significant boost to our redevelopment efforts in downtown Bridgeport. This grant will help bring new businesses and residents to an area within walking distance to Bridgeport”™s train station. Thanks to Gov. Malloy and his administration for their work in moving this project forward ”“ making Bridgeport an even better place to live, work and raise a family.”
The development is in keeping with the current move regionally toward so-called transit-oriented development, which in general promotes a pedestrian work/lifestyle over a car-centric ethos.
