Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano today announced his appointment of Carolina Fonseca as the newest commissioner for the city’s Department of Planning and Development. Fonseca will serve as acting commissioner, pending Yonkers City Council confirmation to the commissioner’s post.
Most recently, Fonseca served as head of the building department in the Village of Mamaroneck. She also had served as a consultant for the Village of Tuckahoe and the City of Mount Vernon in their respective building departments and served as commissioner of the building department in Mount Vernon.
“Carolina joins our administration with a unique skill set and expertise in project creations, New York state codes, planning and development,” Spano said. “I am confident she will take the momentum we’ve created over the last decade and build upon it to further expand our economic development efforts in a smart and measured way, serving all those in our community.”
Fonseca holds a Bachelor Degree in Architecture & Urban Planning from Braz Cubas University in Brazil, and is recognized as an International Associate by the American Institute of Architects. At one time she operated her own design firm in Bronxville.
“Yonkers is a city rich in history and promise, and witnessing its transformation under the mayor’s leadership has been inspiring,” Fonseca said. “I am eager to bring my creativity and experience to this flourishing chapter of growth. This is not just a professional milestone, but a unique chance to be a part of a community where equality and collaboration thrive.”
