The Revolution Wind project off the coasts of Rhode Island and Connecticut run jointly by Ørsted and Eversource reached an important milestone on May 15 with the completion of its first underwater foundations.
The installation of the turbine’s foundation is described as the first “steel in the water” moment. The project once completed will create around 1,200 jobs across both states while providing an estimated 350,000 homes with electricity. Connecticut will receive up to 304 kilowatts of produced energy when the offshore wind turbines are operating at full capacity while Rhode Island will draw as much as 400 kilowatts.
“We are delighted to reach this important milestone on our path to a clean energy future,” said Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Commissioner Katie Dykes. “The Revolution Wind project will supply zero carbon energy to Connecticut and Rhode Island, and provide critical winter reliability benefits to the entire region. We expect the success of this collaboration between Connecticut and Rhode Island to be a model for additional regional clean energy efforts.”
