Located on the North Avenue side of the Stella luxury apartment building in New Rochelle’s upscale Vanguard District, recently opened North Ave Eye Care Optometry is, according to its website, an MWBE (minority or women-owned business enterprise), committed to providing exceptional eye-care services to patients.
Its services include treating eye diseases, infections and “eyejuries,” along with the more everyday sales of contact lenses and filling glasses prescriptions. And with an “eye” to fashion, North Ave Eye Care Optometry also has the latest sunglasses from top designer brands, such as Gucci, Prada and Ralph Lauren.
The new business’ owner is Keisha Roden, OD, a graduate of the SUNY College of Optometry, where she earned her Doctor of Optometry degree. With more than 11 years of experience in the Bronx, Roden told the Westfair Business Journal that regular visits to New Rochelle over the years had increasingly drawn her to the city’s charm, and that she had formed a deep connection to it. She said the potential to serve the community, coupled with New Rochelle’s own ongoing downtown improvement, provided an ideal environment for new businesses like hers to grow and thrive.
Had launching the practice there been a smooth process? Yes, she said, thanks to careful planning and support from the community and her own team. Aiming to make new patients in the New Rochelle area, Roden said she was excited to build strong relationships, while providing the same kind of exceptional care that has earned her the trust of those she has served in the past.
“We are equipped with some of the most modern and technological diagnostic tools, which enable us to better care for our patients.Whether you’re in need of an eye exam, need eye glasses, contact lens, have an eye care emergency or need to be treated for an ocular disease, our doors are open, and we are excited to welcome you and assist with (our patients’) needs.”
Those needs are met by a variety of optical disciplines. Although the differences are not always obvious to the patient or client, Roden was happy to expound. “Optometrists…focus on examining, diagnosing and treating patients’ vision and eye health,” she said. “Ophthalmologists (M.D.s), on the other hand, specialize in medical and surgical treatment of eye conditions.”
So while North Ave Eye Care would not be performing eye surgery, the team works closely with ophthalmologists, she said, to provide follow-up care and make referrals for any necessary medical treatments.
On the all-important subject of the new facility’s situation in the Stella building, Roden said that it offers a prime location in the heart of the city, surrounded by a host of other intriguing businesses and easily accessible by bus and train, with ample parking.
“Its central location, in a thriving area of the city, helps us offer high-quality care while being handily situated for both new and existing patients coming from the Bronx,” she said.
With her clients always in mind, practicality and ease of access via the digital platform are also priorities, Roden said, stressing that patients would be able to navigate her services “with minimal stress, cost or inconvenience.”
Aye-aye, we say, or even “eye-eye” – since any service that genuinely reduces stress, inconvenience and cost surely gets our vote.
