For the ninth time, a Connecticut exhibit will spotlight the state”™s aerospace manufacturers at the 2014 Farnborough International Airshow, a major biennial aeorospace event set for July 14-20 in the U.K.
The Connecticut pavilion is billed as “an effective and economical way for a range of companies to connect with potential global customers.”
Connecticut”™s air show exhibit program is administered by the state Department of Economic and Community Development in partnership with the Connecticut Center for Advanced Technology Inc.
Besides air show stalwart Stratford-based Sikorsky, Connecticut companies participating include AdChem, First Aviation Services Inc., Aero Gear Inc., Flanagan Industries, AGC Acquisition Inc., PCX Aerostructures L.L.C., Birken Manufacturing, Rostra Vernatherm, EDAC Aero Components and Whitcraft L.L.C.
The air show attracts 140,000 visitors from more than 100 countries. The exhibit program boasts more than $300 million in reported sales generated from participation in the Farnborough show and a Paris air show, which alternates each year with the U.K. event.
The show follows last month”™s announcement that Sikorsky won a U.S. Air Force contract for four combat-rescue helicopters, and related equipment and support, for $1.28 billion. The contract contains language that could lead to an even larger contract in coming years for similar choppers and backup.
The U.S. Small Business Administration”™s STEP Grant, administered by the state development department, provides additional funding support to eligible small companies who exhibit in the Connecticut pavilion.
