The Bridgeport Sound Tigers are doing their part to honor the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy.
The hockey team plans to wear the last names of the children killed on their black jerseys beginning in their Dec. 22 game against the Adirondack Phantoms through Jan. 20. The club is also planning to host fundraisers and auctions to benefit Sandy Hook. The names of the six teachers and administrators will appear on the scoreboard throughout the game.
“Sandy Hook Elementary School has been a part of our family, supporting the Sound Tigers at games and community events since the team began calling Bridgeport home, 12 years ago,” Sound Tigers President Howard Saffan said in a statement. “We are honored to recognize the victims of the heartbreaking events that happened less than 20 miles up the road.”
In a Jan. 20 game against the Springfield Falcons, members of each family will be invited to take home the jersey off the players”™ back. The Sound Tigers are also auctioning off a team-signed Team Alfredsson jersey, a John Tavares autographed jersey and an Alex Ovechkin signed jersey.
