New York City”™s Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum raised the price of standard adult admission from $25 to $30.
According to a new report from The Art Newspaper, the new admission price mirrors recent increases at the Metropolitan Museum of Art (which hiked its standard admission fee for adult out-of-towners to $30 last year) and the Whitney Museum of American Art (which changed its admission costs last month).
The admission change comes while Guggenheim Museum struggles to regain pre-pandemic visitor levels. The Frank Lloyd Wright-designed landmark had 750,000 visitors in 2022, a 152% increase over 2021”™s level but significantly below the nearly 1.3 million visitors in 2019. A museum spokesperson stated the higher admissions will help the venue cover its operational costs.
The Guggenheim’s will continue its admission-free Saturday evenings and expand this gratis entry by an hour, spanning 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
