A workshop that can help dairy farmers optimize their income while minimizing risk is being offered in two Hudson Valley locations Friday, Jan. 14.
“Managing the Margin” will teach producers effective risk management strategies they can use to control price risks and improve their bottom line. The workshop”™s objective is to provide producers with concepts and tools to determine break-even prices, marketing plans and crop insurance decisions appropriate for their operations under various conditions. Specific topics will include margin risk, risk tolerance, break-even analysis, crop insurance and market volatility.
The workshop will be conducted by John Berry, a former dairy farmer who now works for Cooperative Extension in Pennsylvania.
The workshop, which runs from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., will be offered at Cornell Cooperative Extension locations in Orange and Sullivan counties: 18 Seward Ave., Suite 300, in Middletown and 64 Ferndale Road in Liberty.
