Ag optimization

A workshop that can help dairy farmers optimize their income while minimizing risk is being offered in two Hudson Valley locations Friday, Jan. 14.
“Managing the Margin” will teach producers effective risk management strategies they can use to control price risks and improve their bottom line. The workshop”™s objective is to provide producers with concepts and tools to determine break-even prices, marketing plans and crop insurance decisions appropriate for their operations under various conditions. Specific topics will include margin risk, risk tolerance, break-even analysis, crop insurance and market volatility.
The workshop will be conducted by John Berry, a former dairy farmer who now works for Cooperative Extension in Pennsylvania.
The workshop, which runs from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., will be offered at Cornell Cooperative Extension locations in Orange and Sullivan counties: 18 Seward Ave., Suite 300, in Middletown and 64 Ferndale Road in Liberty.
