The Fairfield Conservation Department announced on Friday the opening of its Adopt-A-Street Program.
The Conservation Department is acting on behalf of the Town of Fairfield Conservation Commission and Inland Wetlands Agency in administering the program. The intention is to encourage businesses, community organizations, or even families and individuals who want to contribute to the town’s aesthetics to participate in keeping the streets free of litter.
It is also anticipated that keeping litter off of roadways will prevent environmental damage, according to a March 15 press release about the program. Litter left on streets, in addition to being unsightly, can be driven by wind or rain into wetlands, watercourses, and storm drains where it can pose a hazard.
Volunteers can sponsor a 500 foot section of roadway owned by the town, with a five year commitment to the removal and safe disposal of litter being recognized with signage provided by the Town.
