Xerox has been contracted by the U.S. Air Force for the outsourcing of its document management needs, including print, scan and fax capabilities plus server management and help desk functions. The financial terms of the contract were not disclosed.
According to the Norwalk-based company, each Air Force squadron has been responsible for its own print decisions, thus preventing a centralized management of these activities. Xerox will replace all Air Force equipment with its multifunction devices and take over document management responsibilities over the next 12 months. For the course of the following four years, Xerox will decrease the number of government-owned devices by up to 2,000 units, which it said would generate a 20 percent cost savings.
Xerox will also provide a staff of on-site Xerox personnel to be based between the Pentagon, Joint Base Andrews and Joint Base Anacostia-Boiling for help desk, print infrastructure and device maintenance support.
“The men and women of the Air Force shouldn”™t have to divert their attention from defending our country to focus on document management ”“ we can do that for them,” said Ted Dezvane, senior vice president of managed document services at Xerox. “By outsourcing all aspects of its document environment, the Air Force will gain greater visibility and control of processes and costs, while saving money and improving document security.”
