As part of its ongoing relocation to Boston, General Electric has announced it will cut nearly 100 jobs at its Fairfield facility. Though an actual number has not been determined, GE spokeswoman Susan Bishop said it would be fewer than 100.
“These are jobs tied to the facility itself,” she said. “We expect that some of those employees will find other jobs at GE.”
Many of the nearly 800 GE employees in Fairfield will move to Norwalk, with about 200 moving along with the company’s headquarters to Boston. Others will relocate to GE operations in Cincinnati and Schenectady, N.Y. Bishop noted that some workers have already chosen not to relocate while others are weighing their options, leaving the final number of employees leaving the company uncertain.
GE currently employs about 4,000 people in Connecticut, she said.
The company has yet to decide on whether to act upon Fairfield-based developer Kleban Properties’ offer to purchase the 68-acre GE campus.
