Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo announced that Westchester County received a $1.8 million grant as part of the Hudson Valley Agricultural Enhancement Program.
The Westchester Land Trust will receive the entirety of the grant, which will be used to preserve Stuart”™s Fruit Farm, a 172-acre enterprise in Granite Springs.
The program awarded $20 million in grants to help protect at-risk farmland in the Hudson Valley from future development.
The program will protect more than 5,600 acres of farmland on 28 farms.
“Agriculture remains a key driver of our economy, and I am proud that we are continuing to support and protect New York farmers throughout the Hudson Valley,” Cuomo said.
Lori Ensinger, president of the Westchester Land Trust, said that farms remain an important part of the landscape and economy of Westchester County, adding that the grant is “recognition of the importance of this farm to the broader community.”
