Dr. Tobe Banc has been promoted to the position of vice president and medical director at Phelps Memorial Hospital Center in Sleepy Hollow, hospital officials announced on Feb. 16.
The Briarcliff Manor resident has served as assistant medical director at the 238-bed community hospital since 2007.
In her new role, she oversees all clinical activities and patient care policies and is involved in the strategic development and implementation of programs related to clinical services.
Banc, who is board-certified in internal medicine with an added qualification in geriatrics,  joined the Phelps medical staff in 2004 and one year later was appointed medical director at Kendal on Hudson, the continuing care retirement community on the Phelps campus. She became a full-time employed physician at Phelps in 2007, when she also took over as director of the Senior Health and Internal Medicine practice of Phelps Medical Associates.
She is a graduate of the New York University School of Medicine and completed a residency in internal medicine at the University of Connecticut, followed by a 2-year fellowship in geriatrics at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, where she became an attending physician. Banc later served as director of palliative care education at the Geriatric Research, Education and Clinical Center at the Bronx VA Medical Center.
