Peekskill-based HRHCare will offer monthly support groups for the LGBT community starting in April.
The health care nonprofit, formerly Hudson River HealthCare, partnered with The LOFT: Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Community Services Center and Westchester Jewish Community Services”™ Center Lane LGBTQ youth center to create the program.
“This new collaboration in Peekskill will broaden the services to the entire LGBT community and demonstrate the many possibilities when LGBT service providers partner with health care providers,” Scott Havelka, director of programs and services at The LOFT, said in a statement.
The HRHCare center at 1037 Main St. in Peekskill will host monthly group meetings facilitated by The LOFT and Center Lane, giving HRHCare patients and other community members who are identified or allied with the LGBT community a chance to discuss LGBT health issues as well as support each other through group discussion and sharing.
Starting April 8, Center Lane will host a monthly group session for LGBT youths and young adults ages 13 to 21, from 5 to 6:30 p.m., followed by The LOFT group for LGBT adults from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The meetings will be held on the second Wednesday of every month.
Beginning May 6, The LOFT also will offer the Silver Connections group for LGBT seniors, ages 55 and up, on the first Wednesday of every month at 11:30 a.m.
All group meetings will take place in the Founders Room on the second floor of the HRHCare center.
