A regional Junior Achievement program with headquarters in Bridgeport has acquired a board member of notable business stature and impact.
David Martin, dean of the Ancell School of Business at Western Connecticut State University in Danbury, has joined the board of directors of Junior Achievement Western Connecticut.
Martin previously sat on the board of Junior Achievement in Rochester, N.Y. In a press release, he said he is eager to serve again with the organization.
“Junior Achievement of Western Connecticut is a great organization dedicated to improving the lives of students in our region by engaging them in the principles of our free enterprise system,” Martin said. “Having been in a classroom for ”˜JA in a Day”™ and observing the ”˜Business Challenge,”™ I know that the organization helps to bring the global economy to students in K through 12 with a special emphasis in the high schools. I also know that the members of the board are dedicated individuals who volunteer their time, treasure and talent to ensure that students can see a pathway to success in their life.”
Junior Achievement of Western Connecticut serves Bethel, Brookfield, Danbury, New Fairfield, New Milford, Newtown and several other municipalities. Its free-enterprise message was embraced regionally by more than 22,600 students in more than 1,000 classrooms during the 2013-14 school year. Nationally, 4.5 million students participated in Junior Achievement programs last school year.
Established in 1919, Junior Achievement says it is “dedicated to preparing and inspiring young people to succeed in the global economy.” For more information, call the Office of University Relations at 203-837-8486.
