Nyack College held its annual Social Justice Day Luncheon, a traditional prelude to the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday, Jan. 17 at the Nyack Seaport.
The event recognized Leadership Rockland, a professional development program based in New City; the Martin Luther King Multi-Purpose Center in Spring Valley; and longtime Nyack entrepreneur and community leader Maria Luisa Whittingham, owner of Maria Luisa Boutique and ML by Maria Luisa.
Donovan Richards Jr., a New York City councilman, also received special recognition as an emerging community leader. Richards, who studied at Nyack College, represents voters in Rosedale, Laurelton, Springfield Gardens, and Far Rockaway.
M&T Bank, which served as the event”™s corporate sponsor, recently presented the school with a $5,000 donation that continues to grow the 131-year-old college”™s M&T Bank Minority Scholarship Fund established in 2004.
