Nearly $15 million in state grants have been earmarked to assist with the construction of senior housing projects in Greenwich, Killingly and Wilton, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy said April 18.
“Affordable housing is a critical component of a strong economy,” Malloy said in a statement. “But perhaps most importantly, it”™s projects like these that will make it possible for our seniors to stay in the communities they helped to make such great places to live.”
With a grant of more than $7 million, Hill House Inc. in Greenwich plans to build an additional 24 units to reduce its waiting list.
In Wilton, Mutual Housing of Southwestern Connecticut Inc. will build another 23 units with the help of a $5 million grant.
Along with the Killingly Housing Authority, the three developers were awarded the remaining funds through a competitive request for proposals process. The developments will house residents over the age of  62 and include private quarters with a public dining area.
The grants are pending State Bond Commission approval.
