State Comptroller Kevin Lembo launched an online tax calculator last week to help residents calculate the impact of tax changes on state revenues.
A part of the Open Connecticut website, the tool represents an ongoing effort by Lembo’s office to continue to increase transparency around state government and help educate Connecticut residents while legislators debate the upcoming budget.
Users can adjust or eliminate any tax rate, credit or exemption to see its impact on overall state revenue.
“What might happen if we tweaked the rate for citizens on the low or high ends of the income bracket?” Lembo said in a statement, giving example questions users could ask. “If the state eliminates a tax credit or exemption, how far will it move the financial needle?
“As state lawmakers are in the height of debate and deliberations on the state budget, this do-it-yourself tax calculator puts tax changes in broad perspective for everyone,” he added.
How about a calculator to show how much the State would save if we had rationale pensions for State employees?
