The former White Plains-based hotelier Starwood Hotels and Resorts has officially opened its doors in Stamford.
The new global corporate headquarters was given the blessing of Gov. Dannel Malloy and Stamford Mayor Michael Pavia last week at its opening. The project to bring Starwood to Stamford began during Malloy”™s tenure as Stamford mayor.
Starwood controls multiple hotel brands including Four Points, Sheraton, Le Méridien and Westin. Starwood will be slowly moving its 800 employees from its New York location through the summer as it finishes construction.
“We are thrilled to finally be here in Stamford,” said Frits van Paasschen, CEO of Starwood. “It”™s a very exciting time to become part of this city.”
Starwood has taken the space at the Building and Land Technology-owned office complex at 333 Ludlow St. A portion of the street was renamed by Pavia, to StarPoint, in honor of the company”™s arrival. The company will occupy the north tower building with the address 1 StarPoint. The space neighbors parts of Building and Land Technology”™s major south end redevelopment project Harbor Point.
At the opening ceremony, Malloy said Starwood is in the center of, “a growing-hub of corporate, retail and residential activity in one of the largest redevelopments in North America.”
The Starwood building is presently home to Deloitte and Touche, Coca-Cola”™s fountain sales division, Antares Investment Partners as well as a dozen small businesses.
Eight businesses were moved to make way for the arrival of Starwood.
