Garcia named president of Clean Energy Fund
The Connecticut Clean Energy Fund has appointed Bryan Garcia president of the organization.
The appointment was made by Connecticut Innovations, the state”™s quasi-public authority responsible for technology investing and innovation development, and recommended by the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund Board.
The Cromwell resident was a staff member of the from 2000 to 2007. He returns after serving for four years as program director of the Yale Center for Business and the Environment.
At Yale, Garcia directed the Center for Business and the Environment, a joint initiative of the School of Forestry and Environmental Studies and School of Management, which conducts research, education, and outreach to advance business solutions to global environmental problems.
Department of Environmental Protection Commissioner Daniel C. Esty said his department will work closely with Garcia as it transitions to become the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. The department is part of an initiative by Gov. Dannel P. Malloy that hopes to make the state a leader when it comes to energy efficiency and the use of clean and affordable energy.
Holistic pet food store opens
Global Pet Foods has opened its first pet food shop in the country in Fairfield County.
The Canadian-based franchise opened a store in Darien where it offers natural pet food and environmentally friendly pet products from suppliers based in the U.S. The new 4,500-square-foot store is in the Goodwives Shopping Center on Old King”™s Highway North. The brand, which now has 140 stores, plans to open a Stamford location on Newfield Avenue this month.
Suburban unveils iPad app
Stamford-based Suburban Industries Inc. has developed a web browser application for the Apple iPad called Superstash. The app allows iPad users to quickly take screenshots of any image or webpage, catalog the image and share it.
Trash company opens
The new residential trash removal company 7 North Sanitation has opened in New Milford.
The company offers curbside, back-in and back-door pickup service in Fairfield and Litchfield counties. The business also offers recycling and personal home clean out services.
Nestle aids tornado victims
Stamford-based Nestle Waters America has delivered 800,000 bottles of water to its relief partner, Stamford-based AmeriCares and Gleaning for the World to provide relief to tornado victims.
The water was sent directly to health facilities and other relief centers following the devastating tornado May 22 in Joplin, Mo.
Fifteen truckloads of the bottled water were distributed throughout Joplin. An additional six truckloads were delivered to health facilities and food banks in Kansas City, Carthage, Mo., and to the College Heights Christian Church in the heart of Joplin. Nestle Waters”™ two Texas bottling facilities are provided the supplies.
