Sikorsky at home in heart of Texas

Sikorsky Aircraft Corp. disclosed it has 600 employees in Texas today, and plans to employ more than 1,000 people there.

The Stratford-based helicopter manufacturer is the largest employer in Fairfield County with 8,300 employees at last report. Sikorsky is a subsidiary of Hartford-based United Technologies Corp.

Sikorsky has aircraft maintenance facilities in the Texas town of Beeville, where it relocated a Jacksonville, Fla., facility after receiving funding for facility refurbishments; and in Corpus Christi and Grand Prairie.
