The markets were seesawing last week following reports of better-than-expected consumer confidence running smack into potential economic fallout from the swine flu. Closer to home, there was troubling news in New York state”™s residential market as sales of single-family houses dropped dramatically in the first quarter. Fairfield County has the same bug. And throughout the region everyone continued to watch the unemployment numbers as once rock-solid jobs have vanished in the ether.
The recession has hit almost every market sector and industry and most people have been affected, either directly or indirectly, by layoffs.
One local government leader is making it his business to help get his constituents back to work.
