With October 2013 looming as the date when many will enroll in health insurance via new state exchanges, Xerox Corp. announced a health exchange option for states still considering their technology options.
Norwalk-based Xerox is partnering with CHOICE Administrators Exchange Solutions to offer a comprehensive, cloud-based health insurance exchange.
CHOICE has experience building private insurance carrier exchanges in California where it is located. California, Connecticut and nine others passed legislation last year authorizing new exchanges, according to the New York City-based Commonwealth Fund, with many states still exploring their exchange options.
Under the Affordable Care Act, states must have health insurance exchanges in place for coverage that begins January 2014. Â The U.S. Supreme Court is expected to rule in June on a challenge to the law”™s constitutionality.
“Our discussions with states show that the majority want to make health reform as state-specific as possible and to maintain control over their HIX rather than defaulting to the federal solution,” said Kevin Counihan, president of Choice Administrators Exchange Solutions, in a statement. “As the certification deadline gets closer, it”™s increasingly important for states to consider a comprehensive solution that doesn”™t require building a product and allows time for customization.”
