MONROE – Aubuchon Ace Hardware is going to relocate to a bigger site at the former Rite Aid space in Stepney Plaza at 435 Main St.
The original store, which has operated at 590 Main St. since 2019, has 10,619 square feet while the new one will be 12,124 square feet after renovations.
After renovations to their new location, Aubuchon Ace Hardware is planning to open the new store later this year or early next year. It will feature expanded retail space, a wider selection of products and exclusive brands and an improved shopping experience.
During the transition, the current store will remain open and operating until the day of the actual move.
The move represents a return of a hardware store to the plaza after seven years. The now defunct Stepney Hardware, which was operated by the Otto family for 64 years until closing in 2019, operated at 590 Main St.
Penny Wickey and Laure Aubuchon of Saugatuck Commercial Real Estate (SCRE) represented Aubuchon Hardware in leasing the property. SCRE is a full-service commercial real estate brokerage company located in Westport. It represents retail and office tenants, landlords, developers and investors in leasing, sales and investments.
