Hegseth warned about illegal orders in a 2016 speech
A video has surfaced from April 2016 that shows Donald Trump’s Defense Secretary Hegseth in a speech saying the same thing that Trump wants six Democrats to be executed for saying. Trump called for the death penalty for the six Democratic senators and representatives who made a video telling members of the U.S. military they have a responsibility to not follow illegal orders. In the video of a speech he made in 2016, Hegseth says the same thing and also warns that those who do follow illegal orders risk committing war crimes and should be prosecuted for any war crimes. The video of Hegseth was played this morning on the cable network MSNow.
Napolitano says Hegseth and others should be prosecuted
Judge Andrew Napolitano, who says he worked alongside Defense Secretary Hegseth when Hegseth was at Fox News, says that Hegseth and anyone else who either issued an order or carried out an order to kill survivors of a U.S. military attack on a boat in the Caribbean is a war criminal. Napolitano, who worked for Fox News as a legal expert, gave his analysis on the far-right news outlet NewsMax. Napolitano criticized the White House for changing its story about what happened when two people survived a U.S. military attack and were subsequently killed by the U.S. military. He said that everybody involved from the Secretary of Defense to the admiral in charge of the operation and the people who pulled the trigger should be prosecuted as war criminals.
Republican candidate wins Tennessee election
Republicans have won a congressional seat in a Tennessee special election. Republican Matt Van Epps defeated Democrat Aftyn Behn for the state’s 7th District House seat, but by a much smaller margin that the 22% lead Donald Trump had in the solid Republican district. His win means Republicans will hold a narrow majority in the House, which will stand at 220-213 once he is sworn in. Van Epps had only a 9-point margin of victory despite strong endorsements from President Trump, Tennessee Republican Gov. Bill Lee and House Speaker Mike Johnson.
No agreement in Ukraine talks
A meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and President Trump’s top negotiators failed to result in a breakthrough on ending the war in Ukraine. U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner sat down for the high-level discussions in Moscow on Tuesday. The nearly five hours of discussion were “very useful, constructive and highly substantive,” a top Kremlin aide said, though he added some of the proposals “do not suit us.” Some of the main sticking points are Putin’s demands that Ukraine shrink the size of its army, surrender some of its territory and forgo a future bid to join NATO.
Trump bans iImmigrants from 19 countries
The Trump administration has closed the immigration doors to the U.S. for people from 19 countries, according to a Trump administration policy memo. The administration no longer will accept applications to migrate to the U.S. from people from Afghanistan, Burma, Chad, the Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Yemen, Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan and Venezuela. Immigration officials announced last week that they will reexamine all green cards issued to people from the 19 countries. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem is recommending that the administration add roughly a dozen more countries to the list.
Abbott’s glucose monitors produce errors
Millions of glucose monitors from Abbott Diabetes Care are providing users with incorrect readings, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said in an alert Tuesday. The errors have been linked to at least seven deaths and more than 700 serious injuries worldwide. “If undetected, incorrect low glucose readings over an extended period may lead to wrong treatment decisions for people living with diabetes, such as excessive carbohydrate intake or skipping or delaying insulin doses,” the FDA said. Abbott warned that about 3 million of its products are impacted. It is offering free replacement sensors for the devices.
