YORKTOWN – Yorktown town officials visited the Triangle Shopping Center on Tuesday, July 29, to survey an ongoing $10 million renovation.
The 208,000-square-foot retail center at the intersection of Saw Mill River Road and Maple Hill Street currently has work crews updating store facades and installing new sidewalks. The scope of work includes repaving the 867-space parking lot. Construction will end in the fall.
“We believe in the Town of Yorktown and the economic viability of Yorktown,” said Adam Brodsky, director of operations, development, and co-general counsel at The Hakim Organization, which has owned the retail center since the early 1980s.
“Yorktown is a dynamic place. With all the additional development that’s going on in town —both on the residential side and the commercial side. We think Yorktown is going to have such magnetism.”
Brodsky added that his leasing agents have received significant interest from prospective tenants, and that his company is in talks to bring national retailers to the mall.
“We need shopping for our residents, and that helps our property values. We also need jobs for kids. For example, at Trader Joe’s alone, there are 130 jobs in our community. I’m sure that some of the stores that are possibilities here will hire people, and that’s huge,” said Town Supervisor Ed Lachterman.
The Triangle Shopping Center’s current tenants include an Acme supermarket, Anytime Fitness, Bank of America and Miraggio restaurant.
“I remember when we first spoke before you actually started the construction, you said it’s going to be something spectacular and extraordinary, and I got to tell you that it’s shaping up to be something just wonderful,” Deputy Town Supervisor Sergio Esposito told Brodsky.
The Triangle Shopping Center is walking distance from the Yorktown Green center, which has undergone a renaissance that has attracted national retailers, local restaurants, and thousands of shoppers.
“I thank you and your team for reinvesting in Yorktown,” Councilman Patrick Murphy said to Brodsky. “Yorktown is a destination now because of people like you.”
