WHAT: Today’s Students Tomorrow’s Teachers (TSTT), a leading teacher diversity mentoring program, will celebrate its 30th Anniversary Celebrating the Legacy in making a significant impact on public education by strengthening the diversity ranks of teachers in the nation’s public schools. The milestone celebration occurs as the nation’s public education is facing an unprecedented crisis–from teacher shortages and a decline in student enrollment in colleges and universities, especially in schools of education to reduced funding and a decrease in student academic achievement.
WHO: Distinguished guests including prominent educators, business and community leaders, school district and college partners, local, county, state and federal officials, and supporters and future public school teachers. Among them are Dr. Bettye Perkins, founder and President and CEO of TSTT; New York State Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins; New York State Senator Shelley B. Mayer, Chair of the state Committee on Education; Westchester County Executive Kenneth W. Jenkins; Congressman James E. Clyburn of South Carolina, who has served as TSTT’s Honorary Chair for the past 11 years and who received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2024, the nation’s highest civilian honor and John B. King, Jr., former U.S. Secretary of Education in President Barack Obama’s administration, currently Chancellor of the State University of New York and author of Teacher by Teacher (The People Who Change Our Lives). Award-winning News 12 journalist Lisa LaRocca will serve as Mistress of Ceremonies.
PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS:
· Recognition of Next Generation of TSTT Teachers: A group of outstanding college-bound and college students who have been mentored by TSTT to pursue teaching carers
· 2025 Community Impact Awardees: Greater Hudson Valley Chapter of The Links, Incorporated and Westchester Hudson Valley Chapter of The Links, Incorporated
