Letter to judge: Donald Trump’s attorneys have sent a letter to New York State Judge Juan Merchan asking the judge to throw out Trump’s conviction in the Stormy Daniels hush money case. They contend that yesterday’s Supreme Court decision giving presidents immunity from prosecution means certain evidence used to convict Trump should never have been admitted because it dealt with things that happened while Trump was president. The sexual encounter with Daniels took place before Trump was president. Trump’s attorneys also asked that his sentencing in the case, scheduled for July 11, be delayed.
Biden’s address: In a televised five-minute speech yesterday afternoon about the Supreme Court’s decision on presidential immunity, President Biden warned that if Donald Trump is returned to the White House he will do whatever he wants. Biden warned that with the Supreme Court removing the restrictions of law from the president, Trump will be able to act like a king. Biden pledged to continue to respect limits imposed by law as he has so far in his term in office. Â
Hurricane Beryl: Hurricane Beryl has increased in strength to Category 5 status as it continues causing devastation to islands in the Caribbean. The storm has caused tremendous destruction in Barbados, Grenada and other islands. Many communities were totally flattened. The storm is expected to affect Jamaica even without making a direct hit on that island.
Attempted coup: Ukraine’s Security Service says that four people who may be Russian sympathizers tried to stage a coup and overthrow the government of President Zelenskyy. The Ukrainians say that the four attempted to attract two thousand people, incljuding former soldiers, to a staging area to prepare to attack government buildings. The Ukrainian Security Service says that weapons, ammunition, computers and documents were seized.
Lawsuit against Fox: Hunter Biden has filed a lawsuit in New York state court against Fox News charging that Fox unlawfully used images of him in the nude and performing sex acts in a series it offered on the streaming service Fox Nation. The series had the title “The Trial of Hunter Biden.” The series presented a dramatized trial of Hunter Biden on fictional charges. Biden’s lawsuit charges that Fox violated New York laws regarding pornography.
Technology grants: According to the U.S. Department of Commerce, the Biden Administration is issuing $504 million in grants to support the development of technology hubs around the country. The technology hubs would be involved in areas such as quantum computing, lithium-ion batteries and computer chips. The administration wants to help establish technology manufacturing centers outside of major metropolitan areas.
