The night of June 26 saw powerful winds sweep across Connecticut, driven by a thunderstorm that also caused extensive damage in New York.
At Bradley Airport’s weather station gusts were recorded reaching up to 77 miles per hour.
Eversource and United Illuminating reported tens of thousands of outages across the state.
The damage came mainly in the form of knocked over trees and loose branches, and impacted northern regions of the state the hardest. While thousands of homes lost power during the night, by the morning crews across the state had restored electric service to the majority of homes.
Work continues in more forested and isolated portions of the state, and even in northern Fairfield County there are still dozens of outages reported in the greater Danbury area as of 9 am.
The weather for June 27 is expected to be clear but hot.
