Trump to Miami:Â Donald Trump is scheduled to be flown today from his golf club at Bedminster, New Jersey, to Miami. Trump is due to be arraigned at the federal courthouse in Miami tomorrow on charges that include violating the espionage act. Trump is due to overnight tonight at his Trump National Doral Golf Club. After being booked and appearing before a magistrate tomorrow afternoon he is expected to be flown back to Bedminster where he is scheduled to deliver a speech at 8:15 tomorrow night.
I-95 collapse:Â The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the tanker truck fire under an elevated section of Interstate 95 in Philadelphia that led to the collapse of the northbound roadway and damage to the southbound lanes. An estimated 160,000 vehicles passed along that section of roadway each weekday. It is expected to be months before the roadway can be rebuilt and the federal Department of Transportation says it will expedite funding so work can begin quickly.
Berlusconi dies:Â Former Italian Premier Silvio Berlusconi died in Milan today at age 86. He had served three terms as Italy’s premier. Berlusconi had been hospitalized for treatment of leukemia. He was a populist and autocrat and at one time was the richest person in Italy. Berlusconi made no secret of using his government position to enrich himself and grow his media empire that included television networks.
Unibomber’s death:Â The Associated Press reported this morning that it has learned Ted Kaczynski, better known as the Unibomber, committed suicide in the Federal Medical Center in Butner, North Carolina. His body was found in his cell. He had been undergoing treatment for cancer. Kaczynski had been convicted of carrying out a long-term bombing campaign in which three people were killed and about two-dozen injured.
U.S. rejoining UNESCO:Â UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, announced in Paris this morning that the U.S. has agreed to rejoin the organization. The U.S. was pulled out of UNESCO by the Trump Administration. The U.S. has agreed to pay about $600 million in back dues. Since the U.S. left, China has taken over as the dominant nation in UNESCO and the U.S. wants to reduce China’s influence.
NASDAQ buying software company:Â The stock exchange NASDAQ announced this morning that it is going to buy the software firm Adenza in a deal priced at $10.5 billion in cash and stock. Adenza provides software to the financial services industry. It is currently owned by the software investment firm Thoma Bravo.
