Grandpas United, a program of the White Plains Youth Bureau, is launching its first annual Civic Engagement Awards Program to honor high school seniors who have developed the combination of knowledge, skills, values and motivation to make a difference in their community.
Six awards of $500, made possible by donations to the awards program, will be given this year,
Students are eligible to apply for an award if they are on track to graduate in June 2021, attend White Plains High School or are associated with White Plains Youth Bureau Programs. Students may apply directly or be nominated by members of the community. The deadline for submissions is April 9.
Applicants must demonstrate one or more of the following civic engagement activities: exceptional dedication to community service, be a role models to peers and the wider community, show a commitment to addressing issues of inequality and social justice or have the ability to get others involved in the community.
