Norwalk-based WNLK-AM 1350 has changed its format to present programming from EWTN, a Roman Catholic-focused media organization.
The station was bought in December for $300,000 by Ridgefield-based Veritas Catholic Network Inc. from Sacred Heart University. The transaction included an FM translator at 103.9 MHz that will enable WNLK to simulcast on the FM dial. The university had bought WNLK along with WSTC-AM 1400 in 2011 from Cox Media Group and used the station for a public radio simulcast until 2016 when the format switched to Christian music and programming. The new format will begin on a 24/7 schedule starting on July 8.
In announcing the station”™s purchase in December, Veritas Catholic Network President and CEO Steve Lee said that he planned to include local drive-time programs featuring regional clergy including Bishop Frank Caggiano of the Diocese of Bridgeport, along with coverage of area events including the Norwalk Oyster Festival. Among the EWTN programming to be presented on the station is the Washington, D.C.-based news series “The World Over” with Raymond Arroyo, “The Doctor Is In” with Dr. Ray Guarendi and “Christ Is the Answer” with Father John Riccardo.
“Catholic radio is a consistent, steady, faithful teacher, and our broadcast will be available day and night,” said Lee in announcing the format change. “People will be able to encounter Christ through what we bring them.”
