Trump’s messages:Â Donald Trump yesterday and early this morning sent out racist and antisemitic messages on social media and also called for violence if he’s indicted by a Manhattan grand jury in connection with the hush money payment to porn star Stormy Daniels. Trump also posted a photo of him holding a baseball bat next to a photo of Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, who is Black.
Michigan Republicans:Â Kristina Karamo, who heads the Republican Party in Michigan, has refused to apologize for the party putting out a message equating gun control legislation working its way through the state legislature to what the Nazi’s did in killing six million Jews and others. The new legislation requires secure storage for guns and adds a background check requirement for anyone purchasing a rifle or shotgun. The Republicans said passing the gun control legislation would be just like setting up concentration camps.
Vehicle recall:Â Hyundai and Kia are recalling approximately 570,000 SUVs and minivans because there’s a risk of fire. The affected vehicles have hitches for towing installed. Hyundai and Kia say that water could get into a circuit board installed close to the tow hitch and cause a short circuit leading to a fire. They advise that owners of affected Santa Fe, Santa Cruz and Caravan vehicles park them outdoors, away from buildings.
North Korea’s underwater drone:Â North Korea said this morning is has tested what it calls an underwater nuclear attack drone. It says the remote controlled vehicle can create an underwater nuclear explosion that would release a wave of radioactivity to attack ships or port cities. North Korea said that during the test the underwater drone was successfully operated for more than 60 hours.
Attacks in Syria:Â The U.S. military conducted air strikes on Iranian targets in Syria after an Iranian drone was used to attack American civilians and soldiers. One U.S. contractor was killed and another injured in the drone attack. Five U.S. servicemen were injured. It’s believed a half dozen Iranian-backed Syrians were killed by the U.S. air strikes.
Biden in Canada:Â President Biden is visiting Canada today for meetings with Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau. Border security, the banking situation, trade and the transition to clean energy are expected to be key topics of their discussions. First Lady Jill Biden also is on the trip to Canada.
