Putin invited to China:Â China’s President Xi has invited Russia’s President Putin to visit China. The invitation came during the second day of Xi’s visit to Moscow. The two leaders were expected to sign agreements to increase cooperation and economic activity between China and Russia. They are reported to have discussed the war in Ukraine and China’s desire to act as peace negotiator.
Republicans want Bragg to testify:Â The Republican chairmen of three committees in the House of Representatives have written to Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg asking him to testify before their committees and turn over documents about the Donald Trump hush money case. Prosecutors in Bragg’s office have been presenting evidence to a grand jury about Trump’s payments to porn star Stormy Daniels to buy her silence about a sexual relationship they had. It is widely expected that the grand jury will indict Trump.
Paltrow trial:Â A trial is scheduled to open today in Park City, Utah, in which actress Gwyneth Paltrow is being sued by a man who was injured in a skiing accident. It’s alleged that the actress was skiing downhill and hit him, knocking him down and causing severe injuries including broken ribs and a brain injury.
LA school strike:Â A strike has shut down schools in Los Angeles today. School employees are expected to remain on strike for three days as a result of negotiations for a new contract failing. A handful of schools are being kept open to give students who need it a place to go during the day.
Fox sued by staffer:Â Fox News producer Abby Grossberg has sued the company claiming that Fox attorneys coerced her to give false testimony in the defamation lawsuit filed against Fox by Dominion Voting Systems. Grossberg worked on Tucker Carlson’s program and also on the show headed by Maria Bartiromo. Grossberg has been put on administrative leave by Fox. Evidence in the Dominion lawsuit revealed that Fox hosts and executives knew that Donald Trump’s claims of election fraud were false yet reported them as being true.
More Amazon layoffs:Â Amazon’s CEO Andy Jassy sent out a memo saying that the company plans to cut another 8,000 workers. That’s on top of the 18,000 layoffs made between November and January. He said the company needs to become more streamlined with respect to costs and the number of employees it has.
