Trump also said a bloodbath isn’t even the worst of what would happen in this country if he loses. Trump made the threat during a speech on Saturday. His campaign quickly tried to recast the remark as being tied to the economics of the U.S. auto industry but a review of a recording show that the “bloodbath” and “worst of it” threats stood alone. Trump made the threat of violence at a rally in Ohio.
Trump’s pledge to criminals: Donald Trump began his appearance in Ohio by posing in a salute while a recording was being played of Jan. 6 convicts in jail singing the National Anthem. Trump told his followers that on his first day in office he would free from jail the people who were convicted of invading the U.S. Capitol, assaulting police officers, attempting to find and hang Vice President Pence, and crimes related to the five deaths that resulted from the attack.
Putin wins: Russian dictator Vladimir Putin won 80% of the vote in the Russian presidential election that was held over the weekend. There was no serious opposition to Putin, since he has outlawed political opposition in Russia. Putin received 80% of the vote. The vote gives Putin a fifth term in office. On the eve of the election, during a question and answer session with reporters, Putin for the first time mentioned his former political rival Alexey Navalny, calling his death in a Russian prison a sad event.
Haiti evacuation flights: The State Department says it will continue to arrange charter flights to bring U.S. citizens from Haiti to Miami as long as commercial flights aren’t running. Gang violence and social chaos continue to grow in Haiti. A charter flight yesterday evacuated 30 U.S. citizens. The U.N. estimates that gangs now control 80% of Haiti.
Gaza famine: The U.N.’s World Food Agency said today that famine is imminent in Gaza. It said that 70% of the population currently is going through catastrophic hunger. U.S. airdrops of food continue and supplies from ships have started arriving via a pier built by the U.S. military. The Israeli military today launched another attack on the Shifa Hospital, which is the largest medical center in Gaza. The Israelis said that Hamas militants started shooting at them from inside the hospital.
Women’s health: President Biden today signed an executive order that requires federal agencies to give priority to women’s health issues. In addition, about 20 specific steps were being taken to expand research into women’s health issues and expand funding. The National Institutes of Health is being directed to devote $200 million to research on women’s health issues. The president called on Congress to allocate $12 billion in new funding for women’s health research.
