Trump arraignment:Â City officials in Miami say they’re prepared to handle a crowd of up to 50,000 people outside the federal courthouse today when Donald Trump is booked and arraigned on a 37-count federal indictment that includes espionage violations. Cameras and sound recorders will not be permitted in the courthouse. Reporters will be allowed in and a court reporter will provide an official transcript of what transpires. Trump is scheduled to return to Bedminster, New Jersey, for a birthday party and speech tonight. He’ll be 77 tomorrow.
Treat Williams dead at 71:Â Actor Treat Williams has died in the Albany New York Medical Center where he was airlifted after being thrown from his motorcycle in a collision with an SUV in Dorset, Vermont. Williams was 71 years old. He is remembered for his starring role in the movie “Hair” as well as appearing on TV in “Everwood” and “Blue Bloods.” Williams had appeared in about 120 movies.
Inflation down to 4%:Â Inflation continues easing according to new government statistics released this morning by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The Consumer Price Index rose 0.1% in May, a drop from the 0.4% increase in April. Over the last 12 months the Consumer Price Index is up 4%, the smallest 12-month increase since March 2021. Today’s numbers have given rise to speculation that the Federal Reserve will decide not to make another interest rate hike when it meets tomorrow.
Mass shooting in Denver:Â Police in Denver have arrested a suspect in this morning’s mass shooting about a mile from Ball Arena where the Denver Nuggets had defeated the Miami Heat to become this year’s NBA champions. A group of fans had been celebrating last night’s win when gunfire broke out. At least ten people were wounded.
Russia hits civilian buildings:Â Russia staged a missile attack on the hometown of Ukrainian President Zelenskyy. Missiles hit at least two buildings and killed 11 civilians in Kryvyi Rih in central Ukraine. Russia said its missiles hit the targets at which they were aimed. One of the buildings hit was an apartment building. The other was a warehouse.
Sajak to retire:Â Pat Sajak has announced that he will be retiring as host of the long-running TV game show “Wheel of Fortune” at the end of next season. He said that season 41, which begins in September, will be his last on the show. Sajak is expected to continue working behind the scenes as a consultant.
