Trump’s parole interview: Donald Trump was scheduled to meet with a New York City parole officer via the internet today for an interview to be used by the officer in drafting a pre-sentencing report for Judge Juan Merchan in Trump’s conviction on 34 felony counts. The report will provide guidance Merchan can use when deciding on a sentence for Trump. The court approved Trump being at Mar-a-Lago for a remote interview rather than coming to the probation department in Manhattan because of logistical and security concerns. Judge Merchan approved Trump’s attorney Todd Blanche being with Trump during the interview.
Trump doesn’t care: At a rally yesterday in Las Vegas, Donald Trump said that he doesn’t care about his supporters and just wants their votes. The teleprompters Trump had been using for his speech broke and Trump was forced to ad-lib. In addition to saying he didn’t care about his supporters, Trump complained that his staff was concerned about how the audience at the rally would handle the heat but wasn’t concerned with Trump’s comfort. Trump said he won’t pay the company that provided the teleprompters. Â
French elections: French President Macron has dissolved the French National Assembly. New elections would be held on June 30 and July 7. Macron hopes to put together a coalition that would have enough strength to prevent the far-right RN party from taking control. The right-wing in France has been gaining support. The French National Assembly has 577 members.
Ukraine attack: Ukraine’s military says that it made drone strikes inside of Russia and destroyed a Russian Su-57 stealth fighter jet. The Ukrainians said they hit a Russian air base where the advanced fighter was based. Ukrainian sources said that the Russian jet could be used to launch missiles against Ukraine without leaving Russian airspace. CNN reported that Su-57 airplanes cost from $35 million to $54 million each. Â
Coast Guard Academy: Shannon Norenberg, who is the head of sexual assault prevention at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut, says that she is resigning because Coast Guard officials forced her to lie to sexual assault victims and also lie when she testified before Congress. She said that she can no longer be part of an organization that betrayed her, betrayed sexual assault victims and betrayed the system she set up to hold perpetrators to account.
Hunter Biden trial: The trial of President Biden’s son Hunter resumed in Wilmington, Delaware, today after the prosecution rested its case Friday. The defense said that Biden would not be taking the stand to testify. The judge held a hearing this morning on jury instructions. The government brought charges that Biden lied on a government form when he bought a gun in October 2018. Hunter Biden pleaded not guilty.
