Presidential debate: Donald Trump is backing away from his commitment to take part in a debate on ABC on Sept. 10. In addition to Trump saying he wants a debate to be hosted by Fox instead of ABC as already agreed to, Trump in an interview on Fox refused to commit to ever debating Vice President Harris. Trump started backing away from having a second presidential debate when President Biden ended his run for a second term and Vice President Harris emerged as the likely Democratic nominee for president. Immunity: CNN reported this morning it learned that when the Supreme Court justices first met in private to consider whether to give Donald Trump the immunity from prosecution he was seeking there was an immediate six to three split. The six conservative justices sided with Trump and the three liberals declared themselves against giving Trump the immunity from criminal prosecution he was seeking. CNN said it learned that Chief Justice John Roberts made no attempt to reach out to the other justices and seek a unanimous decision. Â
Vance: CNN reported this morning that it has researched past comments by Sen. J. D. Vance and found that his pattern of criticizing people without children surfaced long before he became Donald Trump’s vice presidential pick. Vance’s comments to Tucker Carlson on Fox News about childless cat ladies has recently attracted attention. CNN found that Vance in 2020 called childless people “more sociopathic” than people who had children. In 2021, while running for Senate, Vance sent out fundraising emails criticizing what he called the radical childless leaders in this country.
Knife attack: Singer Taylor Swift said today she is in shock following a stabbing attack in England that left three children dead who were attending a dance and yoga class where her music was being played. The stabbings occurred in Southport, England. In addition to the three dead, eight children and two adults were injured. Police took a 17-year-old into custody and he was reported facing charges of murder and attempted murder. The motive for the attack was not immediately determined.
Venezuela election: Venezuela’s opposition leader Edmundo Gonzalez says that his campaign has proof that Venezuela’s President Nicolas Maduro lost the presidential election. Gonzalez says that his team has finished counting more than 70% of the votes that were cast and found that he has twice as many votes as does Maduro. Venezuela’s National Electoral Council, which is controlled by Maduro’s sympathizers, already has declared Maduro the winner, giving him his third six-year term as president.
Tesla recall: Tesla is recalling 1.8 million vehicles because the hood can open while the vehicle is in motion and fly up and block the driver’s view. The vehicles were built from 2021 to 2024. Involved are Tesla models 3, S, X and Y. The problem is reported to have affected more cars in China and Europe than in the U.S., but Tesla did not explain why there should be a disparity. Tesla first learned of the problem in March.
