Biden’s speech: President Biden was scheduled to address the nation from the Oval Office tonight at 8 p.m. eastern time to discuss his decision not to seek reelection. Biden returned to the White House from his house in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, where he was recovering from Covid. White House sources told CNN that during the speech Biden would reveal the thinking that led him to make the decision not to run again.
Trump complaint: Attorneys for Donald Trump have filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission alleging that the presidential campaign of Vice President Harris is not entitled to use money that was contributed to the campaign when Joe Biden was running for president and Harris was running for vice president. A filing has already been made to drop Biden’s name and change the committee’s name to Harris for President. The committee has about $91 million in the bank.
Trump rallies: NBC News reports that two sources have told it the Trump campaign plans to stop holding outdoor rallies. However, it’s also reported that the Trump campaign wants to continue holding outdoor events, but smaller ones with limited access. The Secret Service was reported to have been urging Trump’s campaign not to hold the outdoor rallies because of security concerns before the assassination attempt. It was at an outdoor rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, that Trump’s ear was grazed by a bullet.
Netanyahu: Vice President Harris planned to be in Indianapolis today for a campaign appearance and did not plan to preside during a joint meeting of Congress for a speech by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Harris did expect to meet with Netanyahu at some point during his visit to Washington. Netanyahu was expected to try to shore up U.S. support for Israel in its fight with Hamas. President Biden is expected to meet with Netanyahu tomorrow.
Plane crash: The pilot was the only survivor when a regional jet operated by the Nepalese airline Saurya crashed shortly after taking off from Nepal’s international airport. All of the 17 others on board were killed. Low visibility was reported at the time of the crash. Initial reports from aviation authorities in Nepal said the airplane made a right turn after taking off and then crashed.
Tesla financials: Tesla has released its second quarter financials. In the second quarter, Tesla produced approximately 411,000 vehicles. Total income for the second quarter was $25.5 billion, with net income of $1.5 billion. Tesla said it is focused on growing its manufacturing capacity, which includes manufacturing future automated vehicles along with increasing production rates and efficiency at its current factories. It also plans to expand production of electricity storage systems and add to its sources for battery cells by manufacturing its own cells.
