Donald Trump has ordered a halt to all federal financial assistance programs.
The acting head of the White House Office of Management and Budget has issued a directive that puts into effect Donald Trump’s order to halt all federal financial assistance and loan programs. Matthew Vaeth issued a memo to all federal agencies that was supposed to be kept from the public but was leaked to a number of news organizations. The memo says that financial assistance for foreign aid, the green new deal, nongovernmental agencies, and diversity, equity and inclusion programs is to be stopped but doesn’t specify for how long. It appears as if Social Security and Medicaid are not covered by the order. Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer said the financial assistance was ordered by Congress and what Trump is doing violates the law.
