Trump’s surrender:Â Donald Trump has announced that he’ll surrender to authorities in Fulton County, Georgia, on Thursday to be arraigned on charges in the indictment filed against him by a grand jury. Trump is charged with violating state law by illegally trying to overturn the 2020 Presidential Election in Georgia, a state Joe Biden had won. On Thursday he is expected to be fingerprinted, have a mug shot taken and then go before a judge to plead “not guilty.” A judge is expected to allow Trump to remain free on $200,000 bond.
the Iowa poll:Â A Des Moines Register/NBC News/Mediacom poll release today shows that 51% of Republicans likely to take part in the Iowa caucuses believe Donald Trump’s claims that he won the 2020 Presidential Election. However, 57% said that it’s time for someone else to be the Republican Party’s leader and 41% said the GOP should continue being led by Trump.
DeSantis’ board wants Disney investigated:Â The central Florida Tourism Oversight District, which is controlled by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has called for Florida’s Inspector General to investigate the Walt Disney Company. DeSantis has been going after Disney ever since the company sided with critics of his moves to prevent Florida schools from teaching about sexual identify. The tourism board wants an investigation of claims that when Disney controlled the board’s predecessor, the Reedy Creek Improvement District, the district paid Disney $2.5 million to reimburse the company for free passes to Disney World and other benefits provided to Disney employees.
Fukushima water dump:Â The Japanese government today gave approval for the release of radioactive water from the destroyed Fukushima nuclear power plant into the Pacific Ocean beginning on Thursday. The release of wastewater from the plant is part of the decommissioning process. The Fukushima plant suffered a meltdown following an earthquake and tsunami in 2011.
Archdiocese files bankruptcy:Â The San Francisco Archdiocese has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The Archdiocese faces more than 500 lawsuits claiming sexual abuse by priests. Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone said the bankruptcy filing was necessary because the San Francisco Archdiocese doesn’t have the ability to defend itself against all of the lawsuits and doesn’t have the money it would need to pay all of the claims.
Drone attack:Â Ukraine says it flew drones to attack a Russian military air base about 130 miles inside Russia. Supersonic bombers are housed at the base and Ukraine said at least one Russian military aircraft was damaged. Russia acknowledged that there was an attack on the air base but said the only effect was a fire in the parking lot.
