Accidental bombing:Â The Russian Defense Ministry has admitted that one of its bombers mistakenly released a bomb onto a Russian city about 25 miles from the border with Ukraine. Several apartment buildings suffered damage. The Russians said there were only a couple of injuries.
Tornadoes in Oklahoma:Â Three people were killed when a series of eight tornadoes touched down in Oklahoma yesterday. States of emergency were declared in five counties. Work crews remained in the field this morning restoring power to thousands of utility customers.
Starship explosion:Â The SpaceX rocket Starship exploded minutes after being launched yesterday on its first test flight. SpaceX is owned by Elon Musk and has contracts with NASA for several billion dollars to develop the Starship rocket for planned missions to the moon carrying astronauts and cargo. SpaceX called the test launch a success because the rocket did lift off even though it subsequently exploded. Starship was the most powerful rocket ever built.
P&G financials:Â The Procter & Gamble Company this morning reported third quarter fiscal year 2023 net sales of $20.1 billion, an increase of 4% over the prior year. P&G reported net earnings of $3.4 billion for the quarter. P&G was incorporated in 1890.
BuzzFeed shutdown:Â BuzzFeed has announced that it is shutting down its BuzzFeed news operation but will continue publishing HuffPost. The website BuzzFeed.com will continue to be published. The company said it will be laying off about 180 people. A tough economy and declining digital advertising revenues were among the factors blamed for the difficulties the company has been experiencing.
Alec Baldwin charges: Prosecutors in New Mexico announced yesterday that they are dropping criminal charges against actor Alec Baldwin in the shooting death of a cinematographer who was working on Baldwin’s movie “Rust.” Baldwin has contended that the gun he was holding during a rehearsal accidentally discharged without him pulling the trigger.
