The U.S. Postal Service is honoring the legacy of Saul Bellow with a new stamp that is the 34th in its Literary Arts series.
During his career, the Quebec-born Bellow won a record three National Book Awards, the Pulitzer Prize, the National Medal of Arts and the Nobel Prize for Literature. His best-known works include “The Adventures of Augie March,” “Henderson the Rain King,” “Herzog,” “Seize the Day” and “Humboldt’s Gift.”
Ethel Kessler, an art director for USPS, designed the stamp, with original art by illustrator Joe Ciardiello based on photographs of Bellow from 1982. The stamp will be available for use on a mail piece weighing three ounces and will always be valid for the rate printed on it.
