Raceway Pizza, a longtime staple of Yonkers”™ dining scene, is closing after more than a half-century in business.
Located in Yonkers at 775 Yonkers Ave., the family-owned business opened in 1971. In 2021, Raceway Pizza became the center of internet attention when Barstool Sports President Dave Portnoy gave the eatery a glowing review and interviewed owner Luigi Petrozza, who was facing challenges in keeping his business afloat during the Covid-19 pandemic. The restaurant received aid from the Barstool Fund, which was set up to help small businesses struggling in the pandemic.
Petrozza announced the restaurant”™s closure was due to his retirement from the food trade.
“Working here with my mom and dad for many, many years, it’s going to be sad, but it’s time for me to just let go and do what I have to do now,” Petrozza said in a social media video. He added he planned to spend more time with his grandchildren, enjoy some golfing and “just hang out.”
