Engineering firm promotes three
OLA CONSULTING ENGINEERS in Hawthorne, a sustainability-focused industry leader in all aspects of building systems analysis, design and commissioning for nearly 40 years, has announced that JONATHAN KATZ, RICHARD JOYCE and MATTHEW AMICONE have been promoted from senior engineers to associates.

Katz, who has been with the firm since 2006, is part of its Energy Engineering Services Group. He has expertise in conducting energy audits, feasibility studies, mechanical design for HVAC and energy projects, building control systems design, whole building simulations and energy modeling of building systems.
Joyce, a 10-year veteran of OLA, is part of the firm”™s mechanical engineering Serses group. He typically designs all disciplines of mechanical engineering on his projects, including HVAC, plumbing and fire protection.
Amicone, joined OLA as a summer intern during college and began full time after graduation in 2002. As part of the firm”™s electric engineering services group, he has experience in a broad spectrum of projects, including government facilities, K-12 schools, higher education, retail, medical, office and critical environment spaces.
Firm names associates
DIANE ABATE has been named associate at PETER GISOLFI ASSOCIATES, ARCHITECTS, LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTS L.L.P. of Hastings-on-Hudson and New Haven, Conn. Abate joins three other staff members recently promoted to associate: KLAUS KALMBACH, ANDY RONG-HUI LIN and RONEN WILK.

Abate participates in the development of master plans and conceptual designs and coordinates the preparation of construction documents, as well as all aspects of construction administration. She is a registered architect and a cum laude graduate of the Spitzer School of Architecture, City College of the City University of New York.
Kalmbach is the senior design detailer and a construction coordinator for the firm. He is both an architect and landscape architect, with a Bachelor of Architecture degree and a Bachelor of Science degree in landscape architecture from the Spitzer School of Architecture. He is a registered architect and registered landscape architect.
Rong-Hui Lin is a project architect and project manager. He is a registered architect and a LEED AP (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, accredited professional). He holds a Master of Architecture degree from Columbia University.
Ronen Wilk is the firm”™s senior landscape architect and oversees all site-work design and landscape architecture construction. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in landscape architecture and a master”™s degree in urban design/planning, both from the Spitzer School of Architecture. He is a registered landscape architect.
Bank hosts Boomer

Equinox partners with Blythedale
EQUINOX SCARSDALE and MAMARONECK have partnered with BLYTHEDALE CHILDREN”™S HOSPITAL ”“ one of only 19 pediatric specialty hospitals in the United States ”“ in recognition of the national movement “giving Tuesday.” Equinox is asking both members and others to donate toys, art supplies or books at either its Scarsdale or Mamaroneck facility. Nonmembers who donate items will receive a two-week trial membership and a three-day pass to give to friends. All Equinox members who donate will receive a small gift from The Shop. Donations will be accepted through Dec. 29.

White Plains Hospital receives recognition
AMERICAN DIABETES ASSOCIATION (ADA) EDUCATION RECOGNITION CERTIFICATE for a quality diabetes self-management education program was recently awarded to the WHITE PLAINS HOSPITAL DIABETES EDUCATION AND TREATMENT CENTER. The center has been recognized by the ADA since 1998 for providing high-quality education.
Programs apply for recognition voluntarily and those that achieve recognition status must have a staff of knowledgeable health professionals who can provide participants with comprehensive information about diabetes management.
“The recognition gives professionals a national standard by which to measure the quality of services they provide,” said MICHAEL PALUMBO, medical director and executive vice president of White Plains Hospital. “It also assures patients that they will receive high-quality care and education from trained professionals with specialized expertise in diabetes.”
Bank honors nonprofits
THE PEOPLE”™S UNITED COMMUNITY FOUNDATION in Bridgeport, Conn., the philanthropic arm of People”™s United Bank, honored its grant recipients during a recognition breakfast held at the People”™s United Bank branch on Mamaroneck Avenue in White Plains.
For the third grant cycle of 2013, People”™s United Community Foundation awarded $40,500 to eight nonprofit organizations in White Plains, Hawthorne, North Salem and New York City. Funding supported initiatives ranging from basic needs services and homelessness prevention programs to technology training and first-time homebuyer counseling.
Recipients included Bridge Fund of New York, Community Capital of New York, Community Housing Innovations, El Centro Hispano, Miracle Hands, National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship, Westchester Coalition for the Hungry and Homeless and Westchester Exceptional Children.
“It”™s always a pleasure to meet with our nonprofit partners to hear about the positive impact they are having on children and families throughout our communities,” said Vincent Santilli, executive director of the foundation. “This recognition event also provides a great opportunity for organizations to get together to share best practices and discuss collaborative efforts. We look forward to continuing our support in New York state and recognizing the organizations that are doing great work.”
During the third grant cycle of 2013, People”™s United Community Foundation awarded a total of $694,000 in grants to 132 nonprofit organizations throughout the communities it serves in Connecticut, New York, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine.
Langus joins food bank
APRIL K. LANGUS is the new manager of communications and events at The Food Bank for Westchester in Elmsford.
“Her work ethic and desire to support our ongoing fight against hunger and poverty in Westchester made this an easy decision for us. April is going to be a terrific addition to our staff,” said Ellen Lynch, executive director.
Prior to joining the Food Bank, Langus worked with Westchester area Ameriprise Financial Services Inc., Private Wealth Advisors as its in-house marketing manager. Langus also served as operations and marketing manager at Joan Lunden Productions in Armonk and was marketing services manager at Media Marketing Associates in Chappaqua.
“I”™m thrilled to have this opportunity to become a staff member at the Food Bank,” Langus said. “The team is exceptional; hardworking, smart and committed to the organization”™s mission, to alleviate hunger in Westchester county.”
Langus received a bachelor”™s degree in communications from Ithaca College and resides in Chappaqua.
