Pearson Education Inc. is laying off 55 employees at its office at 10 Bank St. in downtown White Plains.
The company, which publishes The Financial Times, cited economic reasons for the layoffs in a notice filed Tuesday with the state Labor Department. The layoffs will begin in August.
Last week, the English company announced a $225.7 million plan to refocus business on digital services and emerging markets. The company had a sharp fall in net profits in 2012.
Pearson recently announced it will relocate its U.S. headquarters from Upper Saddle River to Hoboken, N.J., at the end of  2014.
