Officials at Pace University appointed a new law school dean Wednesday.
David Yassky ”“ most recently the chair of New York City’s taxi commission during the Bloomberg administration ”“ will assume the position April 1, replacing Michelle S. Simon.
Simon led the law school for seven years and will return as a faculty member.
Yassky said he’s excited to join the school during a “pivotal moment in legal education.”
“Under the leadership of Dean Simon and her predecessors, Pace has earned a deservedly strong reputation for producing excellent lawyers and first-rate scholarship,” Yassky said in a press release. “I look forward to helping the law school continue to thrive in this rapidly changing environment.”
As chair of the taxi commission, Yassky was credited for several initiatives to improve service, raise drivers’ wages and streamline administrative operations.
Before joining Bloomberg’s administration, Yassky served eight years as a representative in the New York City Council. He’s also held positions at Brooklyn Law School and New York University Law School.
He graduated Yale Law School and received his undergraduate degree from Princeton University.
